How I Get Two Days Out of One: My Split Daily Schedule Hack

Working from home is a dream- until it isn't. Don't get me wrong, I loveeeeeee the flexibility, but it can get lonely, and the lack of motivation and focus is real. Not to mention, procrastination sneaks up on me in the form of tiny tasks, like feeding my sourdough starter first thing in the morning. (Yes, it's a real thing!)

After realizing I was spending too much time on self-induced distractions, I decided to revamp my schedule. I implemented a color-coordinated, two-day work split to get more done and reclaim my productivity.

My Shift from Hustle to Balance

I used to be the 4 AM gym-goer, hitting heavy weights and running on pre-workout! But my pace has changed; slooowwwww mornings are my wave now. Waking up at 7 AM felt weird at first because I loved being up at 5am when no one else is up and it's so quiet you can hear everything, but I've embraced the shift.

The best part? My boss (me) doesn't care when I get to work. Instead of pre-workout and lifting, my mornings are about stretching, peaceful dog walks, and clarity for the day ahead. Oh, and I finally started eating breakfast. Let's just say skipping meals and running on a venti Starbucks until 2 PM wasn't exactly helping my anxiety.

My Two-Part Workday Breakdown

To maximize productivity while honoring my natural energy flow, I split my workday into two focused blocks:

  • Morning Work Sprint (8 AM - 12 PM): My "zone of genius" time. This is when I tackle my hardest tasks- proposals, RFPs, program building, and anything requiring deep focus. I also check in with my team to ensure they have what they need for the day.

  • Afternoon Work Wrap-Up (2 PM - 5 PM): After a mid-day break to recharge, I use this block for meetings, reviewing my interns' work, emails, and coordinating outreach for my programs. It's more collaborative and admin-heavy, allowing me to ease into the evening.

The Full Schedule:

  • 7 - 8 AM: Wake up, stretch, yoga, walk dogs, feed my sourdough bread (yes, it's a daily thing for me haha).

  • 8 - 9 AM: Breakfast, coffee, and a quick world news update. I review client websites, check Trello, and provide feedback for my team.

  • 10 - 12 PM: Deep work: grants, proposals, program building, and work with my partner, Life Reins, Inc.  Available for team troubleshooting if needed.

  • 12 - 2 PM: Midday reset: walk dogs, water my garden, gym & sauna, shower, check emails, eat lunch, and (guilty pleasure) half an episode of Law & Order: SVU OR Organized Chaos - because anything Benson and/or Stabler I'm there.

  • 2 - 5 PM: Review team tasks, provide feedback, plan priorities for the next day, check clients' event calendars, and finalize deliverables.

  • 5 PM Onward: Pool time, journaling (because the entrepreneurial thoughts never stop), gardening, or learning something new for my homestead journey.

My Productivity Secret Weapon

The real game-changer? My desk timer. Blocking out time keeps me accountable and prevents me from falling into the procrastination trap. Bonus: There's a Spring sale on my favorite one right now- grab it here: https://amzn.to/3FJYnnO

If you’re struggling with motivation while working from home, try implementing a split schedule. Play around with your most productive hours and give yourself intentional breaks to reset. Trust me, it makes all the difference.
