Gina's Business Advice: How Did I Find My Purpose?

I didn't wake up one day with a clear roadmap labeled “Purpose.” If anything, my journey has been a series of pivots, detours, and unexpected turns that led me exactly where I needed to be.

For a long time, I thought purpose was something you just knew, like an “aha” moment where the clouds part and a voice from the universe says, This is it! But that's not how it happened for me. My purpose revealed itself over time through experiences, trial and error, and most importantly, listening to myself.

Back in 2022, I had my spiritual awakening, and to be honest, it broke me down. Law enforcement shaped me into the person they wanted me to be. I wasn't miserable, but I was hardened—confined in a shell they built around me. There was a kind of unspoken rule in policing: You act this way. And I did. I adapted, I followed suit, I became what the job required. But when my awakening hit, it destroyed me. I had what I call a tower moment—everything I thought I knew came crashing down, and it rocked me to my core.

Entrepreneurship was never really in sight for me growing up. I always thought having a stable job was the way to go. But after jumping from job to job and feeling over it three months later (sometimes earlier), I realized I wasn't meant to fit into someone else's structure—I was meant to build my own.

Like, literally hammer-and-nail my own path forward.

It wasn't until I sat with myself and truly asked, What do I really want? What brings me the most joy? that I started to find my answer. I didn't just want to work—I wanted to solve a problem that mattered to me.

That's when I leaned into what I loved: helping people, problem-solving, and creating opportunities for others. And that's how Get Local was born.

The biggest lesson?

Your purpose isn't a single destination. It evolves as you evolve. I have many purposes for many different people, as well as for myself. You don't find purpose—it finds you when you start paying attention to what energizes you, what challenges you in the best way, and what impact you want to leave behind.

So if you're searching for your purpose, stop looking for a perfect answer. Instead, ask yourself:

  • What feels aligned with who I am today?

  • What problems do I care about solving?

  • What excites me even when it's hard?

Follow those answers, take the next right step, and trust that the path will unfold. Because it always does.
